Maternity & Newborn with the Sweetest Doodles | Austin Family Newborn Photographer

As a photographer, there are some sessions that just leave a little imprint on your heart — the ones where everything comes together in the most beautiful, natural way. This newborn session with baby Ellis was absolutely one of those. But to really tell the story, we’ve got to start at the beginning — with a windswept maternity session and two of the sweetest parents (and doodles!) I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.

I first met this lovely couple during their maternity shoot. The weather that day was, well… less than perfect. We were battling wind and the looming threat of a storm, but they showed up with the most easy-going, joyful energy. Instead of letting the weather get in the way, they embraced it. And wouldn’t you know — the stormy skies added so much drama and magic to the session. It turned out to be one of my favorite maternity shoots to date.

Fast forward a few weeks, and I walked into their home to meet their newest love — baby Ellis. Their home was a photographer’s dream: full of beautiful, soft natural light that poured in through big windows and created the perfect atmosphere for a cozy in-home session. And just like his parents, Ellis was an absolute gem.

He was awake and alert for the first half of the session — which I love because it gives us a chance to capture those soulful, wide-eyed moments that are so fleeting in the newborn stage. His curious gaze was locked on the camera more than once (a budding model already, maybe?). Then, as if on cue, he dozed off into the deepest, dreamiest sleep, allowing us to gently pose him and get those snuggly, sleepy shots every parent adores.

And I can’t forget to mention the real MVPs of the session: the family’s two adorable doodles. One is a Schnoodle and the other a Labradoodle, and both were beyond excited when I first arrived. But after a few minutes of high energy and sniffs, they settled in and seemed to understand that something special was happening. They stayed close, often right next to baby Ellis, and made it clear they were already the most loyal of big siblings. There’s something so heart-melting about dogs watching over a newborn — it gets me every time.

Sessions like these are the reason I love what I do. Watching a family grow, being invited into these tender, real moments, and capturing the beauty of it all — it’s such an honor. To this sweet family: thank you for trusting me with these memories, for being so warm and welcoming, and for raising such a precious little soul (and two very photogenic pups!).
